Nobody Cares What I Think About Caitlyn Jenner

But that’s the glory of having my own blog. I get to share my thoughts anyway.

Mike “I’ve obviously never showered with a girl before” Huckabee has refused to comment on Caitlyn Jenner specifically, but some bigoted comments he made earlier this year about restroom use have been making the rounds lately.

This says more about Huckabee as a young rapist than anything about Caitlyn Jenner or even transpeople in general. First, he assumes that the only reason someone would go through the arduous, expensive, and stressful task of transitioning genders is to peak at ladies in the shower. Which makes me think he hasn’t yet heard of the Internet. Second, he indicates that he would use his knowledge of this loophole not for good, but for evil in order that he too may peak at ladies in the shower. Third, his eroticization of showering ladies leads me to conclude that at 59 years of age, he has yet to shower with an actual lady. Because if he had he wouldn’t be so keen on jumping in the ring. There’s lots of hogging the water, shaving everything in reach, and awkward positioning in order to properly clean both puss and ass. It’s not the non-stop volley of sexy boob fun Mr. Huckabee might imagine.

This and the fact that he was quick to come to the defense of incestuous molester Josh Duggar leads me to believe that this guy has some pretty low standards when it comes to raping people.

Laverne Cox articulated something that I couldn’t put my finger on when she said “In certain lighting, at certain angles I am able to embody certain cisnormative beauty standards. Now, there are many trans folks because of genetics and/or lack of material access who will never be able to embody these standards. More importantly many trans folks don’t want to embody them and we shouldn’t have to to be seen as ourselves and respected as ourselves.”

Women from all walks of life are continually encouraged to be beautiful in the regular way. Regular meaning white, thin, and young. Caitlyn Jenner certainly embodies these three characteristics to the best of her ability. I’m so happy to see that we live in a society where transphobia doesn’t exist… provided you have $100 million at your easy disposal. But isn’t that always the way? All we have to do is look at Jenner’s fellow republican Dick Cheney to know that money can even buy a measure of immortality.

So, now Caitlyn Jenner will join the ranks of unattainablly rich and beautiful women who make the rest of us feel bad about our stylistic and dieting choices every time we go through the check-out line at the grocery store. Which leads me to the next point.

John Stewart said a smart thing about how the media response focused mostly on whether or not she was bang-able.

Which even I was guilty of. I immediately said she looked like Janice Dickinson if Dickinson hadn’t turned into a serial surgery disaster. So I was doubly guilty, both of focusing on her looks and of putting down somebody else in the process of focusing on her looks. Although, to be fair, it seems like team Caitlyn want us to do this. The trailer for her new reality show (don’t act surprised) has her putting on makeup for the entire thing.

Which leads me to my real commentary:

I didn’t watch Caitlyn Jenner’s reality show before this. I’m not going to watch her reality show after this. Just because she came out doesn’t mean she’s suddenly the kind of celebrity I would ever give a flying fuck about.

In an ideal world the response to someone coming out as trans would be “ok” or “good to know.” Of course we don’t live in a perfect world, so it’s important to be encouraging and welcoming to anybody who’s coming out to you. But it’s also important not to treat people significantly differently. Especially if they’re fame-whore reality show stars.

So, welcome to the world Caitlyn Jenner, I still think the thing you do is dumb.
