- He is an actor, singer, and an author. He co-writes with his sister Carol, their most recent book is Bone Quill, the second in a series of YA fantasy novels about twins with magical powers.
- He has been a professional actor since 1989, when he played Billy Crocker in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes at the Prince Edward Theatre, in London
- He does not believe in marriage, and does not refer to his 20-year relationship with Scott Gill as a marriage, although they were registered as civil partners in 2006
