What I Wore: Rage

I know I talked about it yesterday, but I am loving The Steel Remains so incredibly hard right now. I’m half way through and I don’t want this book to ever end. Ringil is such an unmitigated bad ass, I wish I were awesome enough to have him as my spirit animal. At a time in my life where I’m feeling like I need to reclaim some of the massive, fire-breathing rage it took me years to learn how to stop from being my first response to things, this character is helping to guide me back to my core.

I notice that there are times when a little blunt force goes a long fucking way, and I have stopped taking advantage of those times. I did so in the interest of being able to live in society and be employed and have friends, but I think I’ve taken the nice girl routine a little too far as of late. For example, I never would have had to wait two weeks with my thumb up my ass in an apartment with a broken toilet, just wishing someone would notice my patient daily calls and pleasant messages before. I mean, they probably would have tried to evict me for the fit I threw and then not fixed my toilet for two weeks out of spite. But that’s why life is about balance. Sometimes it’s just nice to let people know you’re upset. Not get abusive of course, but not continue to be polite past the point of their rudeness.

Anyway, our toilet got fixed today (at long last), and only after I threw a micro-fit on the phone with the management company. But I came home to see some dirty water drips leading from the living room and into the bathroom, which is totally normal, but I also saw them extend about 2 feet into the bedroom, which I am not overly fond of. The plumber also left his sweater here, so I’m going to text him and tell him to a. come and get his shit and b. stay the hell out of my bedroom.

Next time it won’t take two weeks. They’ll wake up with my dick in their mouth if that’s how it has to be between us. It just takes so much more effort to be an asshole about everything.

UPDATE: Ben says that he thinks the spots leading into our bedroom are the dog’s footprints, not the plumbers, which actually makes more sense. So never mind about that bedroom part. Everything else stands. Cultivating rage, etc.

What I Wore: I Hate Winter

I love this outfit, it was super comfy and super cute and I got a ton of compliments on it. It also happened that yesterday, the day I wore this, was one of the first days since the beginning of October that I didn’t feel like shit, I was almost afraid to be happy, I’ve had bronchitis this whole time and it’s finally letting up.

Positivity aside, I have to say that I hate winter. I love clothes, but I don’t really like the sensation of wearing clothes, especially wearing a lot of clothes. Tights (the universal girl solution to cold weather) irritate me and, if I wear them more than one day in a row, they give me a urinary tract infection. Because of this outfit, I realized that long johns also do this. Which is a shame, because I spent $60 on long johns thinking that I would be able to get around the UTI issue if the undergarment was baggier. No such luck.

So now I’m back where I started, leaving for Oregon in 3 weeks, with the same cold skirt collection that I always bring. And I refuse to wear pants because in addition to the UTI problem, they make me nauseous. Do any of you readers experience this problem? People who actually live in cold climates, guide me! Being a life-long Los Angeles resident has really not prepared me in any way for the cold. I’m actually thinking of making some winter petticoats for myself out of flannel. What do you guys think?

What I Wore: Born for Comfort

Since I was sick yesterday, I decided to go for an outfit that would be the most comfortable without totally just being PJs.

This underskirt was liberated from my grandmother’s closet. It wanted a life where it would be worn, and she’s the type of woman who will wear a skirt once in 5 years, maybe. So the skirt came to live with me where it is in a much more regular rotation. It also has tiny bells on the tie that make a really sweet jingle when I walk.

Scarf is from T.J. Maxx
Shirt is from the Salvation Army
Undershirt is from Target
Overskirt is from Sibling Ravelry in Corvalis, Oregon
Underskirt from grandma
Socks from Target
Shoes are Dansko from R.E.I.

What I Wore: Voting Day

I know this is the outfit from yesterday, but I didn’t have time to put it up last night. Anyway, I planned on wearing blue, since I’m a democrat. Unfortunately, like so many other things that day, it all came out red despite my best efforts. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, these were taken with a phone. Ben’s camera is not feeling so good.

What I Wore: Target in Session

Tonight we had a Target photo shoot, because I love Target. And because we needed toilet paper.

If I take anything away from this situation, I think it will be that fluorescent lighting is no one’s friend. Well, at least it’s not mine, and who the hell wouldn’t want to be friends with all this?

What I Wore: Red Tide

This would have been a better title if I was on my period.

Anyway, on to the outfit.

Our cat, Medusa came out to see what all the fuss was about.

I just tied on my wrap-around skirt like an apron, so my other skirt was visible from the back.

Close-up on the scarf

Pretending to be Batman, as usual.

A good look at the underthings.

Brown scarf is from Macy’s in Portland. I bought it because we were visiting and it was freezing, and I popped into Macy’s to see if I could find something to put around my neck, and it was marked down to $20 from $80, and the sales girl was super nice and from California. I think that experience started my romance with Macy’s. I always go in thinking that there’s nothing in the store for me, and I always leave with some new favorite things for a surprisingly low price.

What I Wore: Preppy Adorable

The camera’s battery died, so tonight we have our outfit pictures thanks to my boyfriend’s Samsung Vibrant. Thanks Samsung!

Oh, and I got the title for this post from my co-workers, who said it was a ‘preppy adorable,’ but adorable in Spanish rather than adorable in English. Am I even spelling that right? God, I am a terrible Mexican.

I know, it looks like I think I’m the messiah, but it’s the best picture of the outfit.

Messing around

Yes!

And to make up for the poor pictures, here’s another video where I awkwardly interact with the camera, as if I am a child.
